About Oroko Radio

Empowering through conversation, collaboration and community.

Oroko is a not-for-profit independent internet radio station based in Accra, Ghana. We aim to connect, inspire and empower through conversation, collaboration and community.

Recentering narratives

We seek to reclaim and recenter narratives from the African and Diasporic artistic communities with a particular focus on local perspectives in Accra, in addition to cultivating and nurturing relationships with like-minded projects across the globe. Oroko Radio shines a spotlight on alternative sounds and thoughts coming from and influenced by the African continent.

Providing a stage and fostering relationships

Oroko Radio provides a stage for local musicians, DJs, thinkers, moderators, and content creators: an independent hub for expression of self and thought through sound. It also serves as a platform for the content generated through the Oroko Artist Residency. The station intends to foster relationships with visiting artists and community projects in Accra, Ghana as well as other community projects around the globe, exchanging ideas, organizing workshops, co-creating programming, and much more. These collaborations will further strengthen the interconnectedness between Accra and the rest of the globe, leaving space for the radio to potentially expand its reach.

Building bridges

We want to further develop and foster the connections between the youth of Africa and the Diaspora, with programming that is curated for us, by us. Our founding team is a group of industry professionals/artists with roots in West Africa (Ghana, Nigeria) and Europe (Germany, UK), with a wealth of experience and an extensive network in music, radio, visual arts, film and dance.
