Jess

PSSNGR is a young label based in Paris, whose main purpose is to circulate the dance music avant-gardes that already exist in Africa, as well as those to come. The label's ambition is to amplify and unify, within an open and moving space, the futurophile creativity of producers from South Africa, Angola and all the other countries of the continent where good music is currently being made.

Its founder, Jess, made his name in the Parisian house scene of the nineties with Crabbe, before diving into extra-western club sounds. He was one of the first DJs to play and introduce to Europe tracks and trends from scenes that were not very exposed outside of Africa at the time. Long connected to local scenes, Jess has already, in the past, offered visibility to logobi, Kuduro, batida, Venezuelan changa tuki, or kwaito. In 2011, he released with Crabbe the pioneering anthology Bazzerk - African Digital Dance on Mental Groove. More recently, in 2021, he co-produced the compilation Drums of Pitori with the Promesses label. With PSSNGR, he now showcases talented representatives of young South African trends such as rough amapiano, sgija and umbhoqo. His approach is to document and spread the dance music avant-gardes that already exist in Africa, as well as those that will emerge. The artists signed on the label are like passengers on a musical journey, both real and virtual, between Africa and the West. Their project? To take with them all the listeners and dancers ready to tread this global dancefloor.
