About the artist

ṣayọ̀

Ṣayọ̀ is the Venezula-born, Vancouver-based writer, dj and cultural producer using sound as a tool for exploration connection, and community. Her melodic blending of nostalgic and experimental Black sonics is guided by her lived experience, in pursuit of percussive, sensual, sweet release on the dance floor. Informed by a vast and varied catalogue of online references and cultural influences absorbed as part of the Nigerian diaspora, her evolving soundscape is one of many forms for storytelling.

She is a co-director of the Black Arts Centre, a senior writer for sabukaru.online and 1/3 of MADE BY WE. Much of her practice explores the intersections of art, Blackness, digital/pop culture, sociological theory and critical thought.
