About the artist
Somatic Rituals was founded in 2017 as a multidisciplinary creative collective by Abdulmalik Abdi (*1994), Tidiane Sane (*1995), Mirco Joao-Pedro (*1998) and Dimitri Erhard (*1997). The objective of the young Basel-based troupe is to attempt to combine future-oriented club music with installations and visual art. The exploration of different media and the resulting interactions between art consumer and producer are an additional field of interest for Somatic Rituals. The collective sees the format club as an important space for young people of our time, because here different art forms such as music, dance, graphics etc. can find expression. can find expression. How can themes such as identity and home be dealt with and origin-, gender- and class-free spaces be created by means of such a broadly used platform, which rarely seems to be reflected upon? One way, the members of the collective think, could be created through body rituals, that is, dance to music. This is suggested by the name Somatic Rituals.
