Oroko Is Live

By Jinan Vyent

After months of preparation, planning and anticipation, Oroko Radio has launched today. This week marks the start of a versatile program of weekly radio shows by our Oroko Radio Residents from all over the world.

The last month of 2021 was filled with events, workshops and pop ups in Accra and we're happy and grateful for all the memories made and the successful collaborations we've had. We are excited to start 2022 with the launch of our website, where we will stream new shows by our Oroko Radio Residents each Thursday and Friday. We'll also be keeping you up to date with upcoming events and workshops through here, so be sure to sign up for our newsletter to not miss out on anything!

Our Residents shows will be covering a wide array of formats: from a call-in show discussing dating experiences in Accra to hourlong sets celebrating global black music heritage and from programs on African parenting to building a career in the music industry.

We have about 70 residents on board so far, from 15 countries across 4 continents, with over 50% of them based in Ghana. With all of this diversity, our Residents shows will be broadcasted in over 5 languages, while bringing you a broad variety of genres; GQOM, Club, Afrobeats, Amapiano, Alte, Techno, Soul, Jazz, RNB, Folk, Indie, Highlife, Traditional East African sounds and more.

This week we'll have residents from Ghana, Nigeria, France, UK, Kenya and South Africa bringing you the latest beats, news and talks from across the globe. Expect sounds ranging from Afrobeats and Jungle to Amapiano and Techno.

Tomorrow at 17h (UTC/GMT +1) we'll kick off our program for this week, check out the Upcoming Shows section for more info on the residents and their shows!
