Under the inspiration of one of the most solid traditions propagated in the world, which emerged in Jamaica in the 1950s, 18 years ago MiniStereo Público Sound System was born, the first Sound System in Bahia. MiniStereo Público was founded in the city of Salvador in 2005, by a group of reggae-loving dj friends with ambitions to create a movement that would represent them in the city's independent music scene.
Currently formed by Dj Raiz, Dj Pureza and Dubmaster Regivan Santa Bárbara, they have a P.A. composed of 6 dual 18-inch subwoofers with 2,000 watts in each box. There are 6 high frequency speakers, with a total of 24,000 watts of sound, which propagate with clean and powerful quality, making the bass even more powerful. The wall is about 2 meters high and 5 meters wide. MiniStereo Público can perform in various configurations, with shows from 2 to 6 hours, DJing with vinyls or digital equipment, being able to participate in the main scenario or in independent tents with their own sound structure.
The first and most emblematic project was and continues to be “MiniStereo Público Salúda Yemanja”. This event was the starting point of this Sound Team; Every February 2, the traditional party in honor of Yemanja, goddess of the sea in Afro-Brazilian culture, is celebrated in the streets of Rio Vermelho, and MiniStereo Público celebrates her birthday with a dance in the purest Jamaican style, without losing the essence of Bahia. They set up the wall on the street for free, taking their vinyls and guest toasters, singers and mcs, to intervene at the party. The ball lasts about 8 hours and each year the flow of participants is greater, reaching a rotating audience of more than 5 thousand people. In this last edition, they celebrated the 14th anniversary with very important guests on the national scene like BNegão (RJ), Dj Magrão (SP), Baiana System (BA) and surprises like Luedji Luna, Mis Ivy among other friends.
They also stand out by carrying out social actions, organized in a project called “Mutirão Mete Mão”, which focuses on the idea of social inclusion of young people from peripheral neighborhoods through the sound system and graffiti, preparing courses for setting up sound systems, courses in djing , and also experiences with dance, graffiti and freestyle, captivating, awakening and offering residents new artistic and professional possibilities. The latest proposals from MiniStereo Público have been: another party called “Soundcheck” that permeates the roots and dub aspects of reggae is the “Arena Sound System”, the first Sound Systems festival in Salvador, with more than 10 hours of duration, held in January 2018, with 3 sound systems from different Brazilian states: the sound of MiniStereo Público, DeskaReggae (BH) and Digitaldubs (RJ), and having guests as important in the world of reggae as Cedric Mylton (JAM), Prince Fatty & Horseman (UK), Lazzo Matumbi (BR), Black Allien (BR), BNegão Trio (BR).
