I sit down and talk to Mighty Mark about his many contributions to the Baltimore Club Scene and follow up with a guest mix from the legend himself.
With Guest: Marquis Gasque, better known by his stage name Mighty Mark, is a platinum-certified producer and DJ who has been carving out a clear path for Baltimore Club Music. His career in the scene took off in 2007, and since then, he's been a driving force in the genre, creating dance music with a distinctively aggressive, in-your-face style. Born and raised in the Cherry Hill Projects of South Baltimore, Mighty Mark's sound is a high-energy blend of overdriven 808s and gritty, slamming drums, a true reflection of the raw and vibrant energy of his hometown.
Mighty Mark's journey in music began in 2006, and his dedication to making the world dance has never wavered. His upcoming release, "Work Ya Body" with Cakes Da Killa, shows the continued evolution of his signature sound, and is expected to cement itself as another floor-filler in his impressive discography.
Mighty Mark's debut, the self-titled "Mighty Mark" EP, was released by the French label Moveltraxx, setting the stage for his burgeoning career. In 2016, he gained significant recognition for producing tracks for TT The Artist, with several being featured on Issa Rae's Emmy Award-winning HBO series "Insecure,” among other major productions such as “Space Jam: A New Legacy” and “Nappily Ever After.” This success was a clear sign that his music was resonating and moving in the right direction, a sentiment echoed by features in top publications like Complex, Vice, Vulture, FACT Mag, Noisey, and Fader.
His talent and potential led him to be selected for the Red Bull Music Academy's Bass Camp at The Bonnaroo Music Festival, where he honed his skills alongside industry legends like Bun B, Rico Wade, and Richard Devine. There, Mighty Mark absorbed invaluable insights and techniques to shape his unique sound further. In 2023, his relentless drive earned him the 2023 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Award.
Mighty Mark's dedication to his craft and community has made him a pivotal figure in the rise of Baltimore Club Music. With a clear vision and relentless energy, he's not just creating tracks; he's shaping the future of a genre. As Mighty Mark's star continues to rise, he remains committed to bringing the infectious rhythms of Baltimore to the world, one beat at a time, ensuring that the legacy of B’more club music not only endures but evolves with each of his groundbreaking creations.
