Ahead of the Lagos film premiere of "Ki'mon!: The Eastern Nigerian Afro-Funk Revolution 1970-1980," taking place on March 17, the African Music Library sat down with Afro-Funk veteran Eddie Offeyi, drummer and founding member of the Port Harcourt Afro-Funk band Heads Funk. In this conversation, Offeyi takes listeners on a journey through the history of Afro-Funk music coming out of the East, which to him fully finds life following the fallout of the Nigeria-Biafra War in 1970. Listen in as he name-drops his contemporaries, who formed groundbreaking bands like the Funkees, Wrinkars Experience, the Apostles, and more, and who shaped Nigeria's robust soundscape for years to come.
With Guest: Edward 'Eddie' Offeyi is the incredible drummer of Nigeria's Heads Funk Band, a seminal Afro-Funk outfit founded in Port Harcourt in the 1970s.
