A sonic celebration and exploration of Black British music through the lens of sound system culture which was brought over by the Windrush generation. This mix makes connections across the past present and future of Black British music from the dub and reggae roots in the Caribbean's to the emerging sounds of grime, UK funky, UK bass and more. Black people have always been in the UK. In fact there is evidence of African people in Roman Britain as far back as the 3rd century AD, and black communities have been present since at least 1500. However in more recent history the Windrush generation are the generation that not only helped rebuild Britain after the war but forged the roots of present day musical culture in the UK. Rave culture owes black brits a lot and during these times where it is easy to forget how rooted migration is in the very fabric of British society it is important that we remember and celebrate the struggle fought for and won by those who came before us. It is important we do not take it for granted and we play our part in ensuring a better future for those after us. The story of music and the story of culture is one of migration. This mix celebrates those roots featuring artists like Ragz Originale and Shaybo who are making connections across R'n'b rap and afro beats to producers like Scratcha DVA and Karen Nyame (KG) who are making connections across UK funky, Amapiano and Gqom. We are here, we are not going anywhere. Black culture is British culture. Black history is British history. We have a lot to celebrate and from this place of joy we must find the courage to stand together as a community to keep shining our light and to play our part in protecting and growing the legacy and wins of those who came before us.
