Inspired by the Afro-Cuban traditions I grew up with, MAFEREFUN… blends my sonic heritage with broader African and diasporic sounds to create the spiritual session of my heart—an intimate space where we can experience collective radical joy and essential healing. It bridges my nostalgia for La Habana with my excitement for the future, all while staying grounded in the present to celebrate the stories of love, resilience, and spirituality that unite us all. MAFEREFUN… is my love letter to my ancestors, the Orishas, and to you.

This MAFEREFUN… was entirely recorded while I was in Bogotá, Colombia. My first time — but definitely not the last — in this city. Just as I love to do whenever I am faced with a new experience, I immersed myself in the culture, flavors, people, and stories that opened up to me. And, as usual, I discovered unimaginable sounds, unique connections to the culture that gave me life, and the many others I’ve come to know during my years living as a migrant in this world.
