PORTA GALLERY invites special guest Big Chi— She takes us through a portal into the depths of Nigeria.

"The collision of frequencies is structured by anti-Sapa rhythms, sirens, gunshots, children laughing, birds chirping, and voices of the political and religious elitist. The soundscape should move you towards even more laughter - abi tears, or both, which could also be interpreted as madness. But madness could just mean spirit sha, If you know you know and if you don’t, well— your body go know." — Big Chi

With Guest: Big Chi believes in the unifying power of sound for healing and change. Rhythm is the force that conducts spirit through the masks of our conformities, and music is the sacred site of this force. For Chi, Djing started in their primary school classroom in Abuja, Nigeria. They would bring their few CDs and radio from home to end-of-term class parties. P-square and Weird MC rocked their whole world and body. A child's imagination urges them to soar towards more possibilities despite perceived limitations. Music is a playground where I dance and I play, and I dance and I cry from playing too hard.
