Dancing with DY is a showcase of my new favourite DJ's favourite tunes. For my first show we have a guest by the name of AMAZA, a DJ & producer from Jo'burg South. I first saw him DJing on a quiet night at Great Dane in Braamfontein & absolutely had to get an exclusive mix.
I kick off the show with a small playlist of my own earworms, jams I have been absolutely blasting every single day for the past month, in between this dope guest mix.
Special Guest: I go by the name of AMAZA, born and bred in the South of Johannesburg in South Africa. My music journey actually began in my early childhood years. I started off by producing lofi/chill-hop beats with friends which led me right into DJing and mixing music. My mixing career started in 2019 and I haven't looked back ever since. My favourite dance move has to be the vosho, there's just something about popping as squat as a dance move.
Thelma Ndebele is a non-binary (they/them) candidate architect whose interest lies in music as an alternative translation of place, as well as an archive of lived space. Their research and observations made during their post-graduate studies have culminated in them regarding music as a metric of place, specifically in clubs and event venues that host (sub)cultures that can be identified by the music produced and consumed by said social groups. When DJing, DORMANTYOUTH gravitates towards electronically-produced bass music, especially sounds that boom from underground scenes in rarely observed (musically) parts of the world. Their alias as DORMANTYOUTH along with their day job as an architect allows them to shape interactions between body and space, providing an eye-opening lens on how greatly sound can affect space and interpersonal interaction.
