About the artist
Kwaku-T is an entertainer and musician with over 30 years of professional experience. Kwaku Asamoah Tutu was born to Ashanti parents in Kumawu, a small village in the suburbs of Kumasi, and moved to New York with his family in the early 1980s. After spending his early formative years in New York, Kwaku moved back to Accra as a teenager. Coming of age in Ghana in the early '90s and coming to terms with his culture and heritage, Kwaku formed one of Ghana's first rap groups, Talking Drums, with his partner Abeeku Ribeiro. With hit singles like "Akwaaba" and "Aden," which blended local dialect with English, the young teenager created the hybrid sound for a new genre of Ghanaian music that became known as Hip Life. He owes much of his popularity in Africa and in various parts of the world to his role as a Ghanaian housemate on the reality show Big Brother Africa 2 (2007). From 2012 to 2015, he worked as a senior celebrity VJ/host on Planet Radio TV's program The Daily Planet in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he resided.
