About the artist

rah</3m

Born and raised in the bustling commercial capital of Malawi, Blantyre, combined with multiple journeys through the cultural hubs of Europe, "rah</3m" is an anti-disciplinary artist building a unique voice and footprint for himself. Drawing from a diverse background steeped in both cultural heritage and the colonial influence faced by Africa, rah</3m intricately weaves together elements of identity, sense of self, belonging, and diasporic narratives in his artistic expression. Continuously honing on his various crafts and having immersed himself in the dynamic atmospheres of various European metropoles, rah</3m brings a unique perspective to their creative endeavours. Through a harmonious blend of mediums, they invite viewers to explore the complexities of cultural fusion, inviting them on a journey that transcends borders and resonates with universal themes. Through his expression, rah</3m aims to encourage a spirit of collaboration rooted in the bantu proverb of "umunthu," which embodies the philosophy of "I am because you are." This ethos stands in contrast to the individualism-based prerequisite often associated with European cultures. Through his art, he seeks to challenge perceptions, provoke thought, and foster connections across borders. Whether through the lens of a camera, or the words and notes on a stanza, he strives to create a dialogue that transcends cultural boundaries.
