The show is defined by the first episode-which encompasses the show’s core principals which will be largely based on a collaborative ground and cameoing as a digital equalizer-where people from different crafts learn, share and create together- J Appiah (Jesse), was involved quite heavily throughout the conception of this show even sharing some songs that he would have liked to hear in the mix for this episode.
Concluding that, this episode, titled "that's the thing about time"- is the combined thoughts that we as friends and artists are having in the current climate, and at the start of the year-largely in relation to the release of his single ONE THIRTY AM. and his upcoming project "that's the thing about time" in which the main philosophical cursor is “time”- Jesse’s sound is soulful playing with heavy basslines- making the concept of time relevant, as the spacey nature of the genres he explore seem to warp time- the show is two parted with an intro and the first half of our casual conversation followed by the mix and then the second part of our conversation, closed off by Jesse performing his recently ONE THIRTY AM. acoustically and an unreleased demo (My Worries).
With Collaborative Guest: Embodying the fluid creativity of an artist rooted in both Ghana and Hackney, J Appiah's music, foremost, is a poignant ode to the present, celebrating life lived authentically and the profound connections forged through mindful existence.
Jesse's genre-fluid playfulness, skillfully balanced in his music, stands as a testament to his capacity to transcend societal norms, defying the conventional boundaries imposed on a young British musician. His sound is distinctive, bearing a vulnerability that resonates with the profound themes of love, life and self-reflection.
Born in a borough marked by the challenges of the '90s—known for its struggles Jesse emerged as a testament to the beauty, diversity and resilience that coexists in the eclectic heart of Hackney and wider areas (Inner city London).
As a kid, weekends at the Centre for Young Musicians (CYM) and drumming in Church laid the foundation for a musical destiny shared with siblings, infused with soul and paving the way for him to become a sought-after vocalist for many household names including Madonna and most notably and recently Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlit’s Gorillaz project.
