About the artist
Yaminah Mello, a self-taught young artist born in Federal District of Brasil, develops work in the musical and visual area and plays the Pífano (traditional instrument) as well as the saxophone soprano. Yaminah played with Charm Mone in São Paulo and a six months Europe Tour, with Hodari at Festival COMA DF and Linn da Quebrada at several festivals in Brasil. Composed and played on albums of Charm Mone (PR), Aghata Saan (SP), and made an appearance on Trevo's (BA) visual album. Yaminah started DJ'ing in 2016 at a Paulete intervention and has since played in Mozambique, Colombia, Brasil and Berlin.
Based in São Paulo, Yaminah plays b2b with their cousin Aisha Mbikia there and around Brasil, and also played at Powis Square in London for the Nothing Hill Carnival. As a music producer, Aisha has composed soundtracks for theater plays, fashion videos, and advertisements for various brands (Institute Tomie Ohtake, Nike, Authentic feet, Nubank, Chivas), as well as for a short film. As a visual artist, she had exhibitions in space Breu in São Paulo (2018), Baró Gallery (2019) and Salvador Capital Afro at Palacio do tira-chapéu in Salvador( 2022). Aisha also recorded footage on a VHS camera to produce a film for the singer Alice Caymmi.
