Arts in the Times of Displacement: Archive 004 Omduram → Port Sudan

With Obada G

Obada weaves his story of leaving Omduram between his own produced track, and speaks of the traumatic experience of migration during war.

Through shock and fear, Obada found peace and acceptance in his sketchbook which is now a powerful documentation of the Sudan War.

The Sudan crisis has displaced more than 2 million people since it began on 15th April 2023. Among those forced to migrate for their safety are musicians and creatives who have had their creative practice disrupted by this violent war. As these creative networks are torn apart, their practices will now be a new timestamp in Sudan's long relationship between displacement patterns and the evolution of the arts.

Space Black proudly invites Izzo, Founder of Al Rassa to takeover Oroko Radio's airwaves and curate a diverse lineup of recently displaced Sudanese creatives. Each artist will share the journey of their bodies and craft from A→B within and beyond Sudan. From the early days of their practice, to the monumental shift during the 2019 revolution and now, the outbreak of war.

The collection looks to be the beginning of a critical digital archive; documenting memoirs, sounds and conversations to capture the subsequent patterns of migration amongst creatives due to the 2023 Sudan War.

The show airs on 3rd July 2023, day 79 of the Sudan War.
