[kevinindafield] hands over the reins to Charleston-based DJ and producer Mummbls for an hour-long takeover—featuring a deep dive into unreleased and upcoming tracks on Rooms Inc, alongside a wide-ranging selection of rhythms from across the spectrum.
With Guest: Mel Willis, also known by the moniker Mummbls, is a DJ and producer based in Charleston, South Carolina. Mel started DJing in 2012 as part of The Mystical Half Dozen, a collective founded by college friend DJ BirdFlu. Alongside fellow collective member Black Olive, Mel co-hosted Backroom Bounce, a monthly underground dance party that ran for over two years before pausing in 2020 due to the pandemic.
During the lockdown period, Mel shifted focus more seriously toward music production, joining an online mentorship group led by UK producer and label head Tee Mango. It was through this community that a connection formed with Greg May, head of Rooms Inc, who later released Mel’s first non-self-released track.
Mummbls' productions are known for a strong emphasis on drums and percussion, reflecting a broad spectrum of musical influences. The work often explores a range of styles, tempos, and textures, driven by a curiosity and openness to sonic experimentation.
