Lys, AKA Lysistrata of Aristophanes: An African Version presents Act I Scene I: Restraint.
With Tritone Paradox Productions
Set in a warring 1970's Ghana, we are introduced to Lysistrata as she awaits the female members of her tribe, the Akan. At her request the wives of her enemies, the Fon and Ewe tribes, meet her for a secret meeting. There, Lysistrata presents her idea for the women to take action against their husbands and deny them sex until they agree to end the ongoing war. Can Lysistrata convince her community and enemies to unite in sisterhood and restraint?
We start this episode in conversation with our sound engineers Zena Vergara and Keana Peery. We discuss what it was like to come onto a project late in the game, what initially drew them to the production and their hopes for the future of, Lys. We'll also listen to a few hand selected songs from the artists.
