A slightly retrospective episode, I am keen to share memories from 26 and 6 years ago.
Opening up, an excerpt from the last broadcast of the show "Love Ambon" on Indonesia's public radio, RRI (Radio Republik Indonesia) in Dili, East Timor, 1999. The show were hosted by Parlin Tobing, Polly Laiyan, Yopi Yakob, George Mano and Arfan. This show was aired at 10 AM on September 23, 1999 and it marked their last broadcast after East Timor's referendum of independence on August 30, 1999. About 78,5% of the population cast their votes for independence from Indonesia, as culmination of 24 years of occupation. East Timor was returned to its pre-annexation status of independence, but as a non-self-governing territory under supervision of United Nation.
Watch the short documentary about RRI's "Love Ambon" here, the video is in Bahasa Indonesia. Also, short video of former Indonesian president B.J Habibie's speech on East Timor crisis meeting here.
Speaking of throw-back, today's mix will take you back to early Mineral House series 6 years ago. I was freelancing on renewable energy projects and power plants inside national park issues. As I selected these songs for the mix, my mind wandered to Uluru-Kata Tjuta Park in Australia. It is one of UNESCO World heritage site. I imagined of marimba, mallets (or synth that sounds like one), woodwind instruments, also breezy wind that brush my skin. I found my oasis in the heat of desert sun.
