Back home, there's often chats about how Kenya doesn't have its own unique sound, which some say is why our music has "failed" to reach global audiences. Others argue that Kenyan music just isn’t up to par. Mizizi (Swahili for roots), attempts to respond to this critique by showcasing music exclusively from Kenyan artists and the Kenyan diaspora in all its forms—whether it's original tracks, collaborations, productions, remixes, or any other contribution by a Kenyan.
Mizizi argues that there isn't just one "Kenyan sound" —because being a Kenyan artist, in itself, is an answer to what Kenyan music is: diverse, creative, and just pure gas. The show occasionally features guests, where we dive deeper into this conversation discussing the music scene, the country’s political climate (#RutoMustGo), appreciating jaba juice and anything/everything else in between.
