With Guest: Jody Simms is a Houston-born DJ, educator, and doctoral student whose work bridges sound, scholarship, educational equity, and Southern Black femme expression. Rooted in her Creole ancestry and familial ties to Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, Simms’ DJ sets draw deep inspiration from the rhythms, politics, and poetics of the Black South. In 2019, she began hosting PU$$YRAP, a radio show on London’s NTS Radio that serves as a curated celebration of womxn rappers, Southern hip hop, and New Orleans bounce. The show, like all of her DJ sets, spotlights the cultural power, lyrical genius, and lived experiences of Black women in music. Each Jody Simms mix pulses with joy, resistance, and the unapologetic energy of femmes of color, creating sonic spaces where liberation meets the dancefloor.
