Mutfak invites Jiajia and Tina
With Julianne Chua & Anna Frehiwot Maconi
Mutfak dishes out diasporic and decolonial perspectives on food, family and fictions peppered with interviews, field recordings, sound archives and poetry. Our goal is to amplify lesser-heard voices and nurture transversal affinities across Afro-Asian diasporas.
In this episode two Peking University exchange students, Jiajia and Tina, will take us through their similar and different connections to China and Europe, and how family, their unique experiences and connections shape their lives and passions.
With Guests: Jiajia is a Chinese-Dutch screenwriting student at the Netherlands Film Academy. Her work delves into themes of bicultural identity, exploring the sense of in-betweenness, the experience of being suspended between Asia and the West. She focuses on stories of the Chinese diaspora and the Chinese-Dutch community, using film and writing as a means of self-discovery and understanding the world.
Born to a Chinese mother and a German father, Tina spent her life between Germany and China. She holds a BA in Economics and Chinese and is pursuing an MA in Asian and African Studies from the Humboldt University of Berlin. Tina has interned at the German Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and is currently studying abroad at Peking University while doing an internship at the China Office of a German political foundation.
