Kruise talks w/ the Kruise Master, T-Buzz about music, traveling, his first film Aaré & more wahala. With Special Guest: My name is Taoheed Bayo; I am a 25-year-old film director, nomad, and movement director born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, living in the United States. As an immigrant, I've learned that many of our stories are narrated from a bystander's perspective. I understand firsthand the importance of telling our stories and shifting the narrative to reflect our experiences. I've always seen us immigrants like leather because it lasts longer, and it's a metaphorical window through which I admire the endurance, perseverance, adaptation, and triumphs of immigrants. As a film and movement director, my art sheds light on Black stories and is an extension of who I am. It is a medium through which I experience the most freedom and avenue to see the world.
My art also expresses my servitude to the world, reflecting my love of lending myself to new thoughts and ideas and celebrating the liberty within me and beyond. Dance is my third language, only behind my native tongue of Yoruba and the English language. Dance, for me, knows no barriers or judgments and is an avenue of freedom. In my dance, an identity is born, an embodiment that only happens when I move. I use it to tell the tales of my migration from Nigeria to the United States with my family and my nomadic journey. The movement I convey in my art represents my life journey - the many years of adaptation, assimilation, and the pursuit of happiness and greener pastures. My duty as an artist is to be a culture bearer that engages communities in their creative practice, celebrating the diversity of human experiences.
