The Music Business Show

With Gron

The Music Business Show is a fresh and highly informative monthly radio show that will be aimed at empowering young aspiring musicians with the knowledge and information that they need to develop successful careers in the music industry without being exploited. The show will cover themes such as the role of performing rights organizations, contracts, music monetization in the digital era, the effect of COVID 19 in the music industry, as well as cover some of the most interesting movements happening in the African music industry e.g Amapiano. What's different about this show is that it is the show for the underdog, aimed at empowering the underprivileged with key music industry information that even the biggest stars are reluctant to share. For so many years, music industry information has been kept in secrete so that artists can be slaves to the industry. This show's mission is to end that curse by providing the African artist with the information they need to be in charge of their own careers and own their legacy.

Hlengwayinkosi Gazide, also known as ‘Gron’, is a South African music producer/DJ, sound engineer, and music researcher. Gron was born in a small town found in Northern KZN called Nquthu and is currently based in the city of Durban. After being bitten by the music bug very early in his life through playing the keyboard at church, he went on to study for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal where he majored in Music and Business Management. This is where Gron’s passion for music research was ignited after meeting Dr. Kathryn Olsen who is a Musicology lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, School of Music. Since then, Gron has assisted in a lot of research projects at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Music department through his great working relationship with Dr. Kathryn Olsen. This has also led to him working with the renowned researchers, Prof Jean Comaroff and her husband Prof John Comaroff, who are both professors at the African and African American Studies Department of Anthropology at Harvard University (USA). Gron has also worked for The Playhouse Company recording studio as an assistant sound engineer and as an Independent field researcher for the Music In Africa Foundation. His experience and knowledge on various sectors of the music business has broadened his expertise in working with artists and has helped forge many of the relationships he has in the music industry.
