Capsule Convos is a talk show that aims to cover the zeitgeist of arts in Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal: with a focus on second generation immigrants. These cities are shaped by the presence of the diaspora through migration, and the art scenes have a strong overlap with those of Ghana, Nigeria, and other parts of West Africa. Born and raised in Toronto, watching old hiplife music videos and Ghanaian / Nigerian movies helped me find identity. I have since been interested in bringing current artistic expression back to the drawing board. Capsule Convos will invite DJs, musicians, producers, and other creatives to engage in a discursive dialogue on what is happening in the world of art and how our African heritage serves as an enduring muse. I am truly fascinated by art's ability to serve as a time capsule, capturing the times & simultaneously remixing the past. An extension of the Ante Soso Arts collective, Capsule Convos will be a blend of conversations and DJ mixes, prioritizing underground talents that make up the alte, afrobeat, afropunk, indie, and rap niches. We also hope to feature curators, stylists, and other cultural innovators. Finally, Capsule Convos encourages dialogue that explores art's relationship to the person, the political, and the pursuit of cultural identity.
With Guest: Banggz is a Nigerian rapper and genre-bender pioneering Afrorap, a dynamic fusion of Afrobeats and Hip-Hop that reflects his journey from Jos to Lagos and beyond. Born in Jos, he and his family relocated to Lagos due to insurgency, a shift that deeply shaped his worldview and artistic identity. The vibrant energy of Lagos became his training ground, immersing him in the city's rich music culture and relentless hustle. His latest project, 4 THE BANGGERZ, establishes him as a creative force, building a sonic world where fans connect beyond reality. This momentum has earned him nominations for Single of the Year, Video of the Year, and Solo Artist of the Year at the 2025 Capital Music Awards. In 2024, he won the Recognize Award for Music Video of the Year for OUTSIDE, solidifying his place as a standout artist. Banggz’s rise has been marked by standout performances at Bluesfest, Pique, Sled Island, and Pop Montreal. His work has been spotlighted by CBC Canada, Ottawa Citizen, That Eric Alper, Tinnitist, Native Magazine, and Pulse Nigeria, reflecting his growing influence both locally and internationally. But Banggz isn’t just making music, he’s fostering a community. His artistry offers listeners a sense of belonging while honoring the sacrifices of his family and reflecting the immigrant experience. His unique sound and storytelling set him apart as a trailblazer in Canada’s evolving hip-hop scene.
