LO-LIFE is my curation of all the new variants of highlife that blend lo-fi sounds infused with messages of love, community, aspiration and escape. Showcasing music, artists, and practitioners from across almost twenty years of alternative Ghanaian music, each two-hour show will feature music old and new, and an intergenerational conversation between two guests: one from when the alternative scene was just starting out and another whose time is now. Because Accra is really not new to this.
Guest: Kweku Ananse & EDWVN
Kweku Ananse: easily one of the most influential DJs and producers in Accra's early 2000s alternative scene, Ananse hosted 'the Soul Explosion' (a radio show dedicated to alternative music before the scene was fully formed) and helped produce Wanlov the Kubolor's 'Green Card' album... before vanishing from the scene and becoming something of a myth. Though reclusive, Ananse's influence can still be heard across a lot of modern Ghanaian music.
EDWVN produces thoughtful, otherworldly music that genuinely pushes against the African grain. His music taste and production style aim at expanding the existing boundaries of Ghanaian music while challenging many of the stereotypes people hold of what constitutes African music. He hosts a monthly show with Oroko Radio named Vibe Architecture.
