With Dindie

[Trigger warning: This episode contains theme about suicide. If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, please get help. You are not alone]

We’re in a car with a middle-aged man, Mr. Badii (Homayoun Ershad) of Iranian film “Taste of Cherry”. We drive through the outskirts of Tehran, looking for someone willing to bury him after he commits suicide and will be compensated 200,000 tomans. All they have to do is call his name on the site tomorrow at dawn (“Mr. Badii, Mr, Badii!”) and wait for his response. It's a thin line between someone is stepping out of a grave, alive or you have to throw 20 spades of dirt into it, assuming he is dead.

Taste of Cherry (طعم گیلاس) is written, directed and edited by Abbas Kiarostami. It is a Palme d'Or winner at 1997 Cannes Film Festival. Kiarostami is a part of generation of filmmaker in the Iranian New Wave that started in late 1960s. He's renowned for minimalist, documentary-style narrative films, with poetic dialogue and for conversations that unfold inside cars. Kiarostami was also a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator, and graphic designer. His other famous works are Koker Trilogy (1987-1994), The Wind Will Carry Us (1999), Close Up (1990) and Like Someone in Love (2012).
