Homeplace: Sounds of Resistance

With Space Black, Elinam Yaa

Ahead of an exciting partnership, Space Black invites Video Producer and DJ Elinam Yaa to share her Homeplaces. Born in Accra, with 5 formative years in London, this show takes us on a moving journey of Elinam's story across both cities. Her selection is built on the sounds of the streets and how they inform the relationship she has with her culture, language, family and the urban fabric of a city.

In parallel to her personal story, Elinam weaves a lesson on Ghanaian traditional folk, the movement of sounds across the Atlantic, and the resulting birth of Highlife, Hiplife and Afrobeats.

Guest: Elinam is a lover of musical history and Lofi instrumentals and plays a catalogue of music that serves as a time capsule from the present day scene, as well as highlighting sounds from our musical history. Be it the classic beats of J Dilla, the psychedelic strings of jazz fusion band Khruangbin or the transcending sounds of C.K man, the aim is to make listeners feel & learn.
